BANGKOK: Subaru manufacturer Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd has announced that the Malaysian-built  Forester will make its debut at the 37th Bangkok International Motor Show, following the start of production in February.

The show will be held from March 23 until April 3.

The refreshed Forester features a new grille and front bumper, updated headlight and tail-lights as well as new alloy wheels.

The SUV will go on sale in the 2nd quarter of 2016 in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia through the Subaru dealer network operated by Tan Chong International.

The Forester uses a 2.0-litre engine linked to a Lineartronic CVT. Three versions – 2.0i, 2.0i P and 2.0XT – are to be offered in all-wheel drive format. The top-specced 2.0XT version uses a turbocharged direct fuel injection engine making 238hp and 350Nm, and will be imported from Japan, while the two lower-end variants are naturally aspirated and will be sourced from the Tan Chong plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur.

The Forester is developed with the goal to maximise its value as a true SUV. Featuring Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, the Forester promises superior driving performance and safety as well as environmental friendliness.

In its mid-term management vision ‘Prominence 2020’ announced on May 9, 2014, FHI laid out initiatives to build a strong business structure. Introduction of the locally-built Forester is a key part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia.

Other Subaru cars to be exhibited  here are the XV, Outback, Levorg, WRX STI, BRZ and VIZIV Future Concept.
