KUALA LUMPUR: Selected variants of the Mitsubishi Triton are being recalled to replace the driver airbag.
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) said 35,115 units of the Triton manufactured from 2006 to 2014 are to be recalled. The variants affected are the Triton 3.2-litre, Triton automatic and manual transmission 2.5-litre and Triton VGT 2.5-litre. Some of the driver airbags may release metal fragments when deployed causing injuries to the driver.
MMM CEO Yang Won-Chul said the company would replace defective airbag inflators at no charge to customers.
Vehicle owners can check their vehicle status by typing the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on MMM’s website.
On the Lancer, MMM urged owners of the sedan manufactured from September 2004 to April 2006 to check its website to find out if their vehicles are involved in the passenger airbag inflator field fix campaign announced earlier this year.
MMM will also conduct a separate field fix campaign for defective turn light switches for some vehicles. This exercise is necessary to fix the related terminals to prevent further rusting and prevent the lights from failing. It did not identify the models.
However, MMM said it would send notification letters to affected Mitsubishi owners and like all recalls, the car company will bear the full cost of repairing the cars.
