- PKR president met PAN pro-tem president Mohamad Sabu to discuss formation of a new Opposition coalition during a closed-door meeting
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail met Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) pro-tem president Mohamad Sabu to discuss formation of a new Opposition coalition during a closed-door meeting today.
“We had a fruitful meeting to discuss the common direction and guiding principles of both parties.
“I am pleased to welcome Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) to the Opposition,” said Dr Wan Azizah in a statement today.
PAN is helmed by professionals in PAS who were not elected in the party’s elections in June.
Dr Wan Azizah reiterated the need for a strong and united opposition to take on Barisan Nasional on current issues and in the next general election.
“The confidence crisis plaguing Malaysia today demands a credible alternative to the BN government.
“I believe that the new Opposition coalition will be stronger and better positioned to challenge the corruption and mismanagement of the economy perpetuated by the current administration.”
Dr Wan Azizah, who is Permatang Pauh MP, said she would be meeting with the leadership of PAS and DAP in the next one week to discuss political developments.
