The body parts of M. Munian was found by the the train’s locomotive driver at 8pm, minutes after the former laid down on the railway tracks.
Earlier, the train, which was traveling towards Johor Baru, was fast approaching when it noticed the victim and sounded its warning whistle.
The 43-year-old locomotive driver then alerted the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) officers and also the auxiliary police in the area for assistance after running over the victim.
Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said the victim’s head, arms and body were mangled from the impact.
“Police believed this to be an act of suicide and have classified the case under Sudden Death Report,” he said today.
Sulaiman said police managed to locate the victim’s handphone and later alerted his relatives of the incident.
“From the conversation with his relatives, the victim who was still single and was believed to be suffering from a long-standing stomach ailment that could not be cured.
“His remains were sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here for a post-mortem.”
