- For the first time, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra will bring you a side-by-side performance with the National Symphony Orchestra
GOOD news for orchestra fans: For the first time, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will bring you a side-by-side performance with the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) on Friday and Saturday (August 21 and 22) at 8.30 p.m.
The orchestras will present a programme which encompasses the evergreen local patriotic song composed by Tan Sri Ahmad Merican titled Tanah Pusaka, along with Les Preludes — an art piece that was inspired from a famous poem and written by a Hungarian artist, Franz Liszt in 1854.
The list of programme also includes Johannes Brahms’ famous Variations on a Theme by Haydn and Antonin Dvorak’s masterpiece, Symphony No.9, nicknamed ‘From the New World’.
Resident Conductor Ciaran McAuley will lead the MPO in these concerts while the NSO will be led by its Music Director, Mustafa Fuzer Nawi.
Mustafa has performed with the MPO at DFP in 2001 and has led the NSO in memorable performances at Istana Budaya, and also have led it in Japan and Sarajevo.
They have performed with renowned local and international artists, and collaborated with embassies. The diversity of culture in Malaysia has greatly contributed towards its musical growth, embracing a wide repertoire.
Besides that, the NSO has also extended its wings to the education field and cultural exchange programmes.
Known for its reputation as one of the best orchestra in Asia, and its top effort in relentlessly presenting the audience of Petronas Philharmonic Hall with wide range of music from classical to jazz, contemporary and pop every week, MPO is once again is ready to wow the its audience with orchestral collaborations of this scale.
