- The Malaysian Rubber Board and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have inked a deal for new ecoprene retread tyres
The Malaysian Rubber Board and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have inked a deal for new ecoprene retread tyres, aimed at improving the fuel efficiency and durability of Rapid KL buses.
“The combination of Ecoprene in the tire tread compound with high dispersion silica filler is a unique fusion that offers a low rolling resistance and higher ‘wet grip’ for energy saving and safety aspects of tires being used,” said the rubber board chairman Datuk Wira Ahmad Hamzah
“The rubber used in the tyre production is considered ‘green material’ because we only use organic materials, unlike synthetic rubber produced from petroleum.
“It is not only environment-friendly, but also low in terms of production costs. For example, one ecoprene retread costs only a third of a newly-produced tyre.”
He said this project is one of the initiatives to promote environmental-friendly products such as ecoprene tyres globally and also boost usage of Malaysian-produced rubber.
With the deal, Prasarana will use 800 of the ecoprene tyres at bus rears on six Rapid KL routes – with the three phase trials scheduled to be completed by 2017.
